C.Coq & Cie. gris.gif (1157 octets)  A factory in MYLOS, specialized in the manufacturing of foulographs.   Honoré AUGUY apparently did get his hands on one of their posters (L).

Calvani. One of the loveliest of the Obscure Cities. Originally conventional in its architecture, this city was mostly known for its dreary weather. One day, a number of magnificent greenhouses were built to accommodate a temporary botanical exhibit. The townspeople were immediately seduced, and entirely rebuilt the city to match. The style may have also been influenced by the buildings surrounding the Great Hall ZARBEC, in XHYSTOS (A). Serious damages were caused by a storm in 752 AT, but glass constructions do remain popular. The heavy air of the greenhouses can be unhealthy for those visitors who are not accustomed to it. Calvani is a vegetarian city, and no exception is tolerated. It produces great wines and subtle perfumes, and rare woods are used as currency (GC). See ALGUA, CALVINO, CANETTI, DOMAINE DE CALVANI, GARDEN OF PHILODENDRONS, GREENHOUSE NUMBER 2, JONES, SPLACH and WINDOW WASHERS.

Cartography. In the Obscure World, this is not an exact science and is rather considered a branch of philosophy. Many regions remain poorly known, and cartographers have a tendency to favour their own city. Furthermore, the very shape of the world is in question, and not everybody believes it to be a globe (GC).   See CENTER FOR CARTOGRAPHY, DE CREMER, GEOGRAPHY, MERCATOR and ORTÉLIUS.

Cartooning. In the Obscure World, this is considered a minor form of art, now obsolete and of interest only to a few old people. However, the MUSÉE DES OMBRES reopened in 719 AT and certain types of cartoons may form PASSAGES between the worlds (ADI, EC). See JACOBS and SCHUITEN.   The French term BANDE DESSINÉE  has a slightly different connotation.

Casavant.gris.gif (1157 octets) A famous family of organ-makers living in the Canadian province of Quebec. They have built some of the largest instruments in the world, including the one in the NOTRE-DAME OF MONTREAL BASILICA. See FROBÉLIUS.

Cassion. [1] An Obscure City located in the eastern part of the CONTINENT, north of ZOR (FU, EC). [2] In our world, a distant eastern city that was said to be the source of much of the spice sold in Europe.  It has never been positively identified, and it would not be surprising to learn that they are both one and the same.

Cataclysm. See GREAT CATACLYSM.

Cauchie, Paul. [1]   An architect living in MYLOS. His townhouse, embedded in a rocky hill in the middle of the city, was the only oasis of luxury and harmony in this somber city. SAM stayed there during his trip (A, GC). [2]   A perfect copy of this building, built by an architect of the same name, exists in BRUSSELS, or perhaps it is the other way around.  See also STRAUVEN.

Celestial Bullet. A space vehicle perfected by Axel WAPPENDORF to reach the hypothetical planet ANTINEA. The experiment was only a partial success (EP, GC).  See STREETS OF BRUSSELS.

Center for Cartography.  An immense dome of GALATOGRADIAN inspiration, located in SODROVNO-VOLDACHIA at the edge of the SOMONITES desert.  A stay in its residential section is not recommended to absent-minded people or sleep-walkers, as the apartments, even at the upper stories, do not have walls; this to teach occupants the notion of border.  However, the view on the central panorama is truly superb.  In 761 AT the building, which had been let go, was in the middle of a vast geo-political operation (FI).   See CARTOGRAPHY, DE CREMER and WALTER.

This odd item has been reproduced on a large scale for the GREEN LAKE Festival (EC).

Centre des Archives du Monde du Travail.  [Center of Archives of the Working World] A building located in Roubaix, France. A former textile industry facility adapted in 1990 AD by architect Sarfati, this structure presents surprising similarities with the main residence of the VON RATHEN family in MYLOS (EP, INT).
