Taxandria. A country that used to share the Obscure World with the CONTINENT, but got separated following a scientific experiment. Long ruled by a line of two-headed Princes who enforced the dogma of Eternal Present until the coming of AIMÉ. Machines, which were held responsible for the GREAT CATACLYSM, were forbidden; as well as, for nebulous reasons, representative art. It seems that a form of English was the official language. See Irina and Thadeus BRENTANO, "F", FILIPUS, FIXORAMA, MARINUM, PALACE OF THE PRINCES, PRESENT, Raoul SERVAIS and TIME (SEP).
Télépénombrateur.

The URBATECT admits having been seduced in his youth by its voluptuous architecture (FU). |

Time [1]. In French, the word temps means both "time" and "weather". In the Obscure world, those two notions are also strongly intermingled, and both can be controlled from ARMILIA. The measure of time is a prestigious office on the CONTINENT, but was long forbidden in TAXANDRIA (see AILÉE). It seems that time flows in the Obscure World more slowly than in ours, but this is apparently not an absolute rule (RA, GC). The HOLLOW EARTHS have their own system of time-keeping. See also Des MYSTÈRES DU CALENDRIER, REVERSO-CHRONOCYCLI, SPITFIRE and WATCHES.
A very lively debate has been held on the BD Paradisio INTERNET forum regarging the temporal relationship between the two worlds. There is also a document that apparently lifts at least partly the veil covering the subject but, like many of the things connected with the Cities, it has not been authenticated. |
Time [2]. Name of a magazine widely distributed in our world. The November 1st, 1993 AD issue clearly indicates that there are contacts between the Obscure universe and North America. This image is identical to the one used on a poster promoting BIBLIOTHERAPY on the CONTINENT (GC).

| Time Portal or Door of
Time. (original French: porte du temps). Located in the
middle of the Desert of SOMONITES, the ruins of this
strange structure were discovered by an expedition led by a certain Rexolle DE BAETS. This finding has struck popular imagination and
has given birth to many legends. The poetess Léonor ACEVEDO
spoke of it in a most elegant fashion (A2). Tirus. An Obscure City in the western part of the CONTINENT, between Luna and Cavi (GC). Title of Passage. Document given to people who have contributed to the discovery of a point of PASSAGE. Printed on high grade paper and illustrated with colour reproductions of Obscure art. See also BULLETIN and TOSSIT. |

| Tivoli. A vast playground in KØBENHAVN. Opened only four months out of the year because of the cold climate of the area (RA). There is a similar place, on a less grandiose scale, in Copenhagen, named after an ancient pleasure garden of Rome. It is one of the oldest sites of its type in our world, and its monumental entrance is quite famous. See COSMOPOLIS and STREETS OF BRUSSELS. |

TOWER (The). See La TOUR.
Tower (The). An immense building, the size of a city. Its construction was started to put an end to the LANGUAGE WARS that were ravaging the CONTINENT. The beginning of the work was taken as the start of a major Obscure calendar; but it was never truly finished and thumbed down around 450 AT - unless it flipped into another universe. The intended goal of its builders was to try to gain access to another spiritual plane through a structure that would have become lighter and more refined as it rose. This concept was perhaps inspired by a description of the MOUNT ANALOGUE. The Tower is generally considered mythical by modern Obscure people, but its cultural influence remains great. (LT, GC). See AT, BATTISTA, BRUEGEL, CLAUDIUS, CROWN, EXPO 2000, MILENA, PALINGENIUS, POSTAL SERVICE, QUADRA NOVA, RECOVERER, TABELLION and VALENTIN.
| Tower of the University of
Montreal. |

Trahmer. A city bordering the JUNGLE OF POZNAH. It has a most ancient appearance, and seems to have escaped the reconstruction craze that swept the CONTINENT in the 7th Century of the Tower Era. The rare images available show massive stone buildings crowned with squat ornate domes (MS). Franz BAUER briefly went through in 696 AT (MS). L'ÉCHO DES CITÉS had its first offices in that town (EC). Harry RHODES and Cynthia SIRK eventually made their home in Thramer when they became marooned in the Obscure World (EC). See also RYAD.

Triton. One of the planets of the Obscure system (ETPV). It may be only a coincidence, but a satellite of Neptune bears the same name in our own Solar System. The orbit of this moon is not only retrograde, but also remarkably excentric. Morever, the CONTINENT is surrounded on all sides by the NEPTUNIC Ocean... See ASTRONOMY.
Trombinoscope.
A device invented by
Professor TOSSIT. The name is based on trombine,
a French slang word to describe a person's face; the closest English equivalent would be
"mug". The only known model is used by LUMIÈRE SUR LES CITÉS to
display the portraits of its citizen members (LSLC).
The details of its inner works are very mysterious, but seem to involve an infra-grey
diffractor equiped with a platinum-coated triode, as well as a suprasulfurated poly-EPROM
(INT). See also TÉLÉPÉNOMBRATEUR.
